Layne passed away on September 24, 2019 at the age of 60.  He was born on January 20, 1959 at Hope Cottage and adopted by his loving parents James and Billie Mayfield.  

Layne grew up in Seagoville, Texas where he attended Seagoville High School and was a member of the football team.  Following graduating from high school, Layne joined the United States Army and was a helicopter mechanic stationed in Alaska. Layne continued his education after his military service and received his Associates Degree. Layne went on to work for TXU for 20 years and worked for SMU until he retired in 2013.  

Layne received medals from the U.S. Army for his acheivements. He was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Secret Serivce for Outstanding Contributions in Support of the Protective Mission during the Dedication of the Geroge W. Bush Presidential Library. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, walking and he especially enjoyed taking his yorkie, Sassy, to the park for 5 mile walks. He was in the process of learning  Hebrew, he always sang hymns while mowing and had a very strong singing voice that all could hear. He attended Life Spring Church in Fate, Texas.

Layne is preceded in death by his loving parents James Mayfield and Billie Mayfield.   

Layne is survived by his wife and best friend, Andrea; his children and stepchildren, Matt Kelly Robert and Nyssa; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.     

A private family celebration will be held at a later date.
