Nancy Sonnevelt, 63, passed away on August 6, 2019 in Ft Worth, Texas. She was born on October 10, 1955 in Ft. Worth, Tx to Don Gray Calvert & Vera Kathleen Steel.
Nancy grew up with 2 older sisters, Donna & Susan, in Benbrook, Tx. She attended Western Hills High School. She then went on to Texas Christian University and later Tarleton State University. Nancy finished up at University of North Texas in Denton with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and a Master’s in Emergency Management. She worked for Fort Worth Police Department for 27 years. After retiring from a dedicated career of public safety, Nancy began her teaching career. She worked a few years at Weatherford College as Assistant Coordinator for the Police Academy. She then worked for Weatherford High School (2011-2017) teaching criminal justice classes at the high school. Her most recent position began in October 2017 with Azle ISD, teaching the dual credit criminal justice classes at the high school & being the Criminal Justice Club instructor. Nancy spent many years with the Parker County 4-H Clubs helping youngsters. She & her daughters were active show members at the Parker County Stock Show & the Fort Worth Stock Show every year for about 15 years. Her most recent passion was her students; she loved seeing them grow & learn who they were & how they wanted to leave their imprint on the world. Nancy loved to spin, knit & crochet. There were several trips made to the Taos Wool Festival in New Mexico to serve as her yearly get away with her 2 sisters.
She was a loving mother & sister, and most recently, great-grandmother. Beloved community member in Parker County for over 30 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Stacie Hamby (husband Matt) & granddaughter Lyndsee, Stephanie Sonnevelt & grandchildren Whitney, James & Cameron, and Samantha Garcia (husband Manuel ) & grandchildren Tegan & Riley; step-saughter: Patricia Shrader (husband Shane) & grandchildren Shiean, Angel, & Christian; great-granddaughter Luna Mae (Shiean's daughter); sisters, Susan Coleman & Donna Otto; boyfriend, Joseph “Smokey” Milligan
Memorial will be Friday August 16, 2019 at Central Baptist Church, 4260 Old Agnes Road Weatherford, Tx 76088, at 4pm.
